MORE TO COME
OTHER SCHOLARSHIP NEWS: (in order of deadline date)
OTHER NEWS:
UFV Applications:
UFV began accepting applications October 1st. However, this is not a deadline, only the opening of the application period. UFV’s policy for most programs, including the Bachelor of Science and the Bachelor of Arts programs is that students who have the prerequisite courses and admission averages who apply by January 31st will be admitted to the programs. Programs such as Nursing, however are competitive. For example, for Nursing admission students are given points based on GPA, an interview, volunteer hours, etc. Students needing volunteer experience for Nursing applications can apply to this program. Applications are at the school. The deadline for application submissions will be November 30th this year. This program will be offered to students between the ages of 16-18 only.
Career Fair
The Grade 10 planning classes attended the Career Fair at the Abbotsford Tradex on November 28, 2011. They had the opportunity to speak to representatives of major universities and colleges as well as numerous trade schools and private postsecondary institutions.
Post Secondary Institution (PSI) Selections (Grade 12’s)
Grade 12 students can now go online to make their PSI choices. This is necessary for universities and colleges to be allowed to access your grades in the spring and next summer.
To make these selections students need to log onto their account at the website: www.bced.gov.bc.ca/exams/tsw/tsw/student/ and choose the Post Secondary Institutions Selections link. You may need to create an account if you have not already done so. You will need your PEN number (from your report card).
On the site, students should check off the box for all B.C. PSI’s if they have the intention of applying to any B.C. colleges or universities. There are other schools that they can choose out of province if they are applying to those institutions. If students have any questions they should stop by or email me to ask for assistance.
University and College Applications
Students should now be applying online to the universities and colleges. This can be done through the website www.applybc.ca. Applications should be done by the end of January.
I will be touching base with the Grade 12 students to check on the status of their university applications over the next month.
Graduation Program Examinations Scholarship Program
Because of the cancellation of Provincial Exams, the following changes have been made to the scholarship program.

Please Stay Up to Date
I highly recommend that parents become involved in their son or daughter’s scholarship search and application process. Many applications and many deadlines are missed as students get busier throughout the school year and put things aside. I urge all Grade 12 parents to add their names to my email list so that I can provide updates directly to you. Please send an email to mrfraseris@shaw.ca or dfraser@stjohnbrebeuf.ca and ask to be added to the email list.

The Academic Counselling Department
At St. John Brebeuf our goal is to assist our students in pursuing post-secondary options and workplace options that are best-suited to their interests and aptitudes. To support our students along this path we provide academic counselling and career planning through the Academic Counselling Department. The Department is open on an appointment or drop-in basis throughout the day to assist students with course selections, career planning, university, college or trades program research and general academic support. Together, the Academic Counselling Department and Learning Centre coordinate a highly effective Peer Tutoring program in which senior students provide academic assistance to other students in the school. The Academic Counselling Department also provides information on external and internal scholarships and external testing (TOEFL, SAT, ACT, etc.) and assists students with work experience placements.
