Spring has definitely arrived in the Learning Center.  Katie has done a wonderful job planting beautiful flowers outside the portable and decorating new bulletin boards as well as our classroom.  Students are enjoying some life skills activities such as gardening, cooking, and outside adventures.  There are a couple field trips planned in the next couple months.  May 4th we will be away at Playland and on June 9th we are heading to Cultas Lake Waterslides for our class picnic.

The PEERS program has completed about 8 weeks thus far and students have been learning concepts such as Entering and exiting conversations, Sportsmanship, and how to make appropriate phone calls.  The purpose for this group is to learn strategies to assist with making and maintaining friendships.

January is almost over and our students are excited about the upcoming semester change. Running the Big Bear Concession proved very successful for our students as they were able to put into practice their money skills.  A highlight this month was an outing to Castle Fun Park as well as a First Aid Certification Course.

We will be having a Girls Day Outing in February which should be a lot of fun.  We will continue earning money to make purchases at our class store in May.  Students work hard to earn money which they can exchange for additional outings, activity days, or items at the store.

Our big focus in the new semester will be on money skills and improving reading skills!

We are always looking for work Experience opportunities for our students so if you have or  know of a local business that is willing to support a work placement please contact Mrs. Choboter @ 604-855-0571 or kchoboter@stjohnbrebeuf.ca

This has been a very fast and exciting start to the school year.

Life Skills is in full swing and the students have already been attending weekly swimming sessions since early September.

Students have been baking, cooking, and heading out on the bus for some community outings.

Our next class field trip is this Thursday October 29 to the Aquarium.

We are looking forward to our Halloween activity day on Friday so students should come dressed in their favourite spooky (or not so spooky) outfit.

God Bless,

Mrs. Choboter and Ms. Short
