Parent Participation Program

The Program

The Parent Participation Program at St. John Brebeuf is a means to enable parents/guardians to take an active role in the school and their child’s education as well as reducing overall operational expenses in our school. Parental support also increases the educational objectives, achievements, and experiences for our students. As we work together we are building the community of God by enabling a thorough and sound Catholic education for our children at an affordable price.

The Details

Parent participation is a commitment required of all registered SJB families. At the time of registration, parents can choose to do work hours or have their parent participation cheque cashed. Parents who choose the work option are required to complete a total of 20 parent participation hours broken up into the following two categories: 15 hours of general work 5 hours of work at either a Parent Fundraiser Association (PFA) supported fundraiser OR a Work Bee. Parents are also required to log in their completed hours through our on-line recording system as work is completed. All available work opportunities will be offered through our Parent Participation newsletter which is minimally released once per month. It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that they are acquiring enough hours, to record their hours, and to ensure that they are receiving the newsletter regularly.

If your family is under personal or financial hardship and would like to be considered exempt from the Parent Participation Program, please complete the REQUEST FOR EXEMPTION FORM to be submitted for review by the Education Committee. All requests and their outcomes will be kept confidential. All decisions by the Education Committee are valid for only the current school year and must be reapplied for exemption each year. For further information about the program please contact the Parent Participation Administrator.
